Professor Dr. Tochukwu Omenma is a political scientist and his research areas are conflict/security studies and participatory democracy. His research on security studies focuses on local defence force and state response to violent extremism, and the development and dynamics of violent extremism. His work aims to generate security evidence and knowledge to support state actors in countering criminality, terrorism and insurgency. His fieldwork research centers on Lake Chad areas, while his wider research activities cover the conflict belts of Sahel region, Horn of Africa, North Africa and Middle East. He uses both quantitative and qualitative research methods in his several researches. He co-edited: Ten years of Boko Haram in Nigeria, Springer: Palgrave Macmillian, 2023. Tochukwu is a recipient of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation award for the experienced researchers and the GES Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He holds a Ph.D. in comparative Politics from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, where he teaches.
