Innovation: The European Journal of Social Science Research is a social science journal
on innovation, change, and transformation of organisations, institutions, and societies at large.
It combines analytical and descriptive rigour with an attempt to provide and discuss
solutions, visions, roadmaps as well as threat scenarios and dystopias.
We consider this combination of hermeneutical analysis and application of deconstruction and construction as the cornerstone of the journal, which is open for all social and cultural sciences.
Now more than ever there is a need for challenging, thoughtful, transformative social science to address the crucial demands our societies are facing – energy transitions, climate crises, pandemic recovery, migration and social justice – we are on the cusp of a new world and the social sciences must lead the way. Innovation can point us in the right direction.
Why I support Innovation and its editing? It is simply because I like the profile that it has developed over the years and the way the team works.
I can say only one thing about Innovation having followed the development, and growth, of the journal over the last twenty years: the journal takes risks where others play is safe by publishing social science research that is interesting, exciting and pushes the boundaries of our understanding.
Innovation shows how the social sciences can contribute to a global transdisciplinary discussion of what sort of leadership, business models, migration policy, public health etc. is needed in this time of great transformation. Innovation brings a wider range of author expertise and geographic reach than we often see in US-based journals.
Innovation offers a place to explore some of the most challenging and important policy issues of our time. It brings together perspectives from across the social sciences and does so in an academically rigorous, yet thoroughly interesting and informative way. It is a fine example of what social science can do to help shape the world in which we live.
This journal comes at the right time: Innovation challenges and opportunities are transforming European and global politics, society, and economy. Innovation provides a much-needed outlet for cutting-edge thinking in the social sciences about factors which support and hinder innovation and the many ways in which technological and scientific innovations are changing the world around us.
